History
Starboard Yacht Group was founded in 2008 by marine systems engineers with a simple mission: make boats more stable and comfortable. What began as a small service operation in Fort Lauderdale grew into one of the most respected marine stabilization practices in the Americas.
In 2021, the team was recognized as the highest-volume professional gyroscopic stabilizer installer in South Florida, completing more luxury refit installations than any competing facility. The same year, SYG also received the Humphree Dealer of the Year award — recognizing our excellence in marine systems integration and multi-system stabilization engineering.
The Transition to Independence
In 2024, Starboard Yacht Group made the strategic decision to operate as an independent marine stabilizer specialist. This transition was driven by a commitment to:
- Consumer transparency: Vessel owners deserve honest assessments, not sales-driven recommendations
- Technical integrity: The right solution depends on the vessel, not a manufacturer relationship
- Service continuity: Independent shops can support any system, regardless of brand politics or dealer agreements
Upgrade Gyro was launched in 2026 as the independent service brand under the Starboard Yacht Group umbrella — carrying forward decades of expertise without manufacturer constraints.
Our Philosophy
We believe marine stabilization is a technical discipline, not a sales channel. Every vessel is different, every owner has different needs, and every problem has a range of solutions. Our job is to help you find the right one — not the most profitable one.
